Iota Nu (UC San Diego)
Sabrina Chan, is the 2021-2022 Iota Nu (UCSD) Scholarship Recipient. She will be a Junior in the Fall and is majoring in General Biology, a minor in Environmental Systems and is a pre-dental student. Lacking a strong female support system in her life, she joined Alpha Chi Omega in Spring 2019 because the women seemed to be an empowering group that could relate to her stories and support her ventures. Sabrina has held the roles of Scholarship Committee member, Scholarship Chair and is now an Executive Board Member as VP Intellectual Development. In her role she seeks to provide her sisters with the necessary tools to not only obtain amazing grades, but to feel motivated and encouraged to do well in their classes and academic careers. She is heavily involved in an organization called UCSD's Pre-Dental Society as the Recruitment Team Lead, on the Special Events team, as a Dental Health Ambassador which raises awareness for oral health to impoverished and younger audiences, and as a chair-side dental assistant for their free dental clinics. |
Kappa Lambda (University of San Diego)
Emma Hirsch decided to join Greek Life because she wanted to be involved in something bigger than herself. Alpha Chi Omega stood out to her because of the support she felt from these Real Strong Women. She will be a Senior this Fall. Emma has served on many committees to assist the chapter, such as the Philanthropy, Recruitment, and Ritual. Her role on the philanthropy committee was to aid the Philanthropy Chair in her duties of raising money for Domestic Violence Awareness through planning and implementation of Walk a Mile. She is involved with USD Herbivores (plant-based club) as Secretary and Treasurer. This organization disseminates information about the plant-based lifestyle and serves to educate our community—herbivores and omnivores alike–on the environmental and health benefits of eating vegan. Before the pandemic made classes online, I had been working closely with campus eateries to ensure that there are proper accommodations for those with dietary restrictions, particularly focusing on Fair-Trade and locally sourced products to reduce CO2 emissions on campus. Emma is also a member of the Jewish Student Union and the Sustainability club. |
