April 2020

Upcoming Events

Day of Caring
Tomorrow is Day of Caring, and we can’t wait to share the message of #AXOcares with sisters, friends and family.

The marketing team created a special Day of Caring Facebook profile frame. Take some time today to update your profile using this frame – use this link and search “Alpha Chi Omega Day of Caring”. We hope Alpha Chi Omega sisters all over the globe will use this frame to show #AXOcares.

During Day of Caring, we will be “unlocking” caring challenges. If you aren’t already, be sure to follow Alpha Chi Omega on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.  More information will be on our San Diego Alumnae Facebook page and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Facebook page tomorrow.

Events
We will be in touch soon about alternative activities we can do as a chapter virtually.  Stay tuned!

Hall of Commitment
UCSD, USD and CSUSM have moved classes to online instruction, limited the number of students that can gather and/or closed residence halls for a period or the remainder of the academic year and asked students to leave campus.

Regrettably, given the most recent update to the CDC's guidance for events, it is likely that Hall of Commitment events will need to be canceled for this term.

Hall of Commitment is a meaningful and important ceremony but not required for members to transition to alumnae status. Although disappointing, we will contact the Chapter Presidents for the seniors contact information so we can share, virtually, the opportunities that exist within the alumnae experience. We acknowledge the significant disruption this is causing in each member’s life, as some are scrambling to find alternative housing and reevaluating what they envisioned for their senior year and spring term.

Get Involved with KOK

We're committed to increasing our membership this year, and we need your help! We're seeking a Social Media Chair and Chair. If you loved collegiate recruitment, or if you're looking to give back to KOK, this is a great opportunity. For more details, contact KOK President Maya Botvinick.

Renew Your KOK Membership or Join Today!

For 2019-2020, we're mixing some well-loved classics, like our holiday party and our Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday event, with exciting new events (ax throwing, anyone?). KOK members enjoy a supportive community of sisters and valuable networking opportunities. Your membership dues help KOK support two local collegiate chapters--Iota Nu (UCSD), Kappa Lambda (USD) and Iota Tau (CSUSM). A portion of your dues also goes to the national organization to keep Alpha Chi Omega strong across the country.

Ready to join? You can pay online OR fill out the registration form, or bring a check to the next event.

Meet Joanna Price, Iota Nu Collegiate Relations Liaison

Picture
Joanna Price is an initiate of Iota Nu (UCSD). She is from La Habra, California and currently resides in San Clemente with her fiancé and cat, Jaxie. She currently works in Public Relations and in her downtime enjoys Crafting, cross stitch and online solitaire. Joanna is currently the Chapter Advisor and the Collegiate Liaison on the KOK Board for Iota Nu. Her favorite Alpha Chi Omega memory is the day she was invited to be a member of the charter class of the Iota Nu chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at UC San Diego. “Little did I know how truly valuable this sisterhood would become well beyond my collegiate years.”

News from Headquarters

Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 19-25 is Volunteer Appreciation Week. We’ll be celebrating and thanking our volunteers all week long! We appreciate the commitment from our alumnae to continually support our organization as volunteers.  As volunteers, our alumnae participate in the Real. Strong. Women. Experience, which produces real, strong women leaders with skills and conviction to effect change in their communities.
Recognize a Sister!
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month
To recognize this month, Alpha Chi Omega typically provides opportunities and digital resources for education and awareness initiatives focused on sexual assault prevention in partnership with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). During this month, members also support the victims and survivors of sexual assault by wearing denim, creating a jean display or hosting an event on campus with educational information to promote awareness.
