Sister Snaps
Watch this space for news of your sisters' major life events, such as notable career achievements, engagements, marriages, and births. We'll also share fun photos of Alpha Chis at KOK events and out and about in the community. Please submit news and photos to Alexa K. Apallas.
Bunco! On March 8, Donna Poey hosted KOK members at her lovely home for a lively evening of bunco and baked potatoes with lots of tasty toppings. Melinda Neal, Linda Sheldone, Julie Crawford, Kristen Comunale, Stephanie Sibley, Pauline Nutt, Donna Poey, Alexa K. Apallas, Anna Howard, and Alexandra Orsatti all got into the good-natured competitive spirit of the game.
Lunch Bunch The Lunch Bunch met at Beach Plum Kitchen in Carlsbad on March 17 for a delicious meal and some quality sisterhood time. Pictured are Lauren Schakowski (potential alumna initiate), Stephanie Sibley, Christine Low, Donna Poey, Maya Botvinick, Linda Sheldone, Anna Howard, Pauline Nutt, and Mickie Pease.
In Memoriam We have sad news to share. Joan Schminke Fulton, a Gamma Zeta Gamma member, lost her husband, Patrick, early this month while they were traveling in Italy. Please keep Joan in your thoughts. KOK has sent condolences to Joan and to KOK member Carol Lewis, Joan's cousin.
Meet Your Newest Board Member
Thanks to Carissa Hoover for volunteering to head up KOK's fundraising efforts! Carissa Hoover didn't have the opportunity to join a sorority as a student at Baruch College, City University of New York, but she has thrown herself into the Alpha Chi Omega experience as an alumna initiate. She now serves as KOK's fundraising chair and is heading up our annual study bag fundraiser.
Carissa grew up in Vista and currently lives in Carlsbad with her two fur children, Kika, a German Shepherd mix, and Kristoff, a recently adopted kitten. She works as a marketing and business consultant and as a volleyball coach. She's also an avid volleyball player, and she enjoys spending time at the gym and taking long walks with her dog. When she's not sweating it out, she likes to cook for the people she loves, indulge in wine tasting, and attend country music concerts. Her burning desire is to travel more, and a trip to Thailand is at the top of her wish list.
Carissa describes herself as "stubbornly persistent," and that characteristic, along with hard work and passion, has helped her become successful. Carissa also loves the values of Alpha Chi Omega, which has quickly taken on a special role in her life. She looks forward to continuing the traditions of our sorority.
